獨詞路標(biāo)的英文書寫形式依國際慣例全部大寫，如出口EXIT
方位詞包括：“東、南、西、北、前、后、中、上、內(nèi)、外”。其對應(yīng)的英文譯法分別為East（E.），South（S.），West（W.），North（N.），F(xiàn)ront，Back，Middle，Upper，Inner，Outer，“東南、西南、東北、西北”其對應(yīng)的英文譯法分別為Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, Northwest；通常情況下，方位詞含有指示方向的意義時應(yīng)譯成英文。當(dāng)方位詞本身固化為地名的一部分時，方位詞采用漢語拼音，如東街口DONGJIEKOU
序數(shù)詞通常情況下，如需要用序數(shù)詞表達，其英文寫法采用字母上標(biāo)形式，如1st，2nd，3rd等，如東三環(huán)E. 3rd Ring Rd
名稱中的數(shù)字不使用英文序數(shù)詞形式，應(yīng)直接使用阿拉伯?dāng)?shù)字表示，如閩江一橋MIN JIANG Bridge 1，2號看臺Platform 2，3號收銀臺Cashier 3
冠詞和介詞，雙語標(biāo)識英文譯法中盡量不使用冠詞和介詞，如頤和園 Summer Palace，但有些約定俗成的說法和固定用法除外，如天壇 Temple of Heaven
標(biāo)點符號，雙語標(biāo)識英文譯法中盡量不用任何標(biāo)點符號，特殊情況除外，如長安大戲院 Chang’an Theater，工人體育場Workers’ Stadium；作為縮寫形式的Ave，St，Rd和Expwy后均無“.”
警示提示信息，采用國際通行的慣例，一般用祈使句或短語表示，句中或短語中實意單詞的首字母大寫，如當(dāng)心觸電Danger! High Voltage，當(dāng)心碰頭Mind Your Head，當(dāng)心踏空Watch Your Step，緊急時擊碎玻璃Break Glass in Emergency等。

禁止性標(biāo)志“請勿……”，“禁止……”一般都譯為“Don’ t…”,““No…”，或“…Forbidden”，“… Prohibited”，句中或短語中各個單詞的首字母都大寫。如請勿登踏Don’ t Step On，請勿亂扔廢棄物No Littering,嚴禁攜帶易燃易爆等危險品進站Dangerous Articles Prohibited，禁止擺賣Vendors Prohibited等。
